Mr. President

At about 5:38pm, Beirut was awash with the sounds of firecrackers, gun shots and other loud bangs. This time the cause was celebratory- Michel Suleiman had been officially elected as President of the Lebanese Republic. Arabs like shooting guns- at weddings, funeral processions, new years, etc. The Lebanese have proved they will shoot at anything- sparrows, endangered birds, their fellow citizens. Every year gunshots fired in the air kill unsuspecting civilians- when will these armed folk learn that what goes up, comes down? (Sadly I can't provide statistics on the figures, but I'm sure they are shocking.)
